Around Newstead, chances are that if you’re a gardener or in the habit of moving wood you will have seen one of these delightful creatures. It’s a Marbled Gecko Christinus marmoratus.

Growing up to 70 mm in length they are an arboreal species that hide under the bark of trees, fallen timber or logs during the day. According to the Museum of Victoria fact sheet “Marbled Geckos mate in late summer to early autumn. The females retain sperm until fertilisation, which occurs in the late spring to early summer. They produce one clutch annually, containing two eggs.”
