Deb Conway is recognised as one of the country’s most articulate and individual voices, with a career that has encompassed recording, performing and writing songs for over 20 years. In the 1980s she won the ARIA  Award for best Female Artist, and Rolling Stone (Australia) named her as Best Female Singer. And she’ll be in Castlemaine this Saturday.

Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier have made a new record which they say is half full of acoustic instruments and half full of the space thats left in between the notes. Its called Half Man, Half Woman and will be released in May. Its a record that chronicles love in the middle ages, life in the 21st century and the human condition of now, then and what will be.

Deb Conway said “It’s always a pleasure to play at beautiful venues and the Theatre Royale is definitely one of those. On the 31st of July we will be bringing double bass player Shannon Birchall (John Butler Trio) and Tony Floyd on percussion (Black Sorrows) back with us to share the Castlemaine experience. The evening will feature our new album Half Man Half Woman and songs from previous releases as well.

“It has been a joy to play with this wonderful band and we’ve been very excited to receive the accolades that our new album has thus far garnered. We feel like we are entering a new and very authentic phase and look forward to sharing it with the Theatre Royale audience.”

Deb will be supported by Lucie Thorne. Lucie Thorne has earned her place as one of the most striking lyricists and voices of Australian contemporary song. Her latest release, Black Across The Field, has garnered extraordinary attention from leading critics, including being awarded ‘Best Roots Album of 2009’ in The Sydney Morning Herald, and being short listed for the prestigious Australian Music Prize. The album combines Thorne’s spacious, gritty rock n roll, and startlingly original dark-folk, with that signature warmth and intimacy for which her live shows have become so renowned.
