Online and Internet security for children (parents only session)

6 July, 2010

Dear parents,

My name is Janita Docherty, and I am a Leading Senior Constable with Castlemaine Police.

On Tuesday 20 July, the Castlemaine Police are holding an Information Session in which to educate parents and other community members on cybersafety and responsible Internet use.

The Cybersafety Information Session is targeted to adults, and any teens attending may require parental guidance.

The presentation will cover:

  • Online Identity Theft
  • Facebook Social Networking
  • Kids Online
  • Cyberbullying
  • Teen Sexting
  • Criminal charges related to above.

Children today are communicating over the internet in a multitude of ways, and the challenge for parents to keep up with Instant Messaging, Chat Rooms, Blogs etc, can be overwhelming.

I personally extend an invitation for you to attend to one of the following sessions;

Tuesday 20 July                        10am            Campbells Creek Community Centre

Tuesday 20 July                        2pm            Campbells Creek Community Centre

Tuesday, 20 July                        6pm            Campbells Creek Community Centre

The Internet is an excellent tool for research and entertainment, and I believe this Information Session will inform you and give assistance to keep you and your family safe online.

I look forward to seeing you at one of the above presentations.

Regards,  Janita.
